Derek Carr Discusses the Raiders' Exit and the Saints' Signing

Derek Carr was released soon before his deal would provide more than $40MM in additional guarantees.

Several teams showed interest. He met with the Jets, Panthers, and Saints and visited New York.

The Jets made Aaron Rodgers their top pick clear.

When they hosted Carr in February, the Jets weren't sure Rodgers would play this season.

While Rodgers was considering joining the Jets and delaying retirement, the Saints ranked him highest.

This made Carr feel “far more comfortable” in New Orleans. The four-year, $150MM contract increased comfort.

he Saints' pitch was never, 'You have to do this, or you have to do that,'" Carr told ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.

The whole team mindset was, ‘We’re all in this together.

One fails, we all fail. Many say that but don't mean it."

The 10th-year veteran called the Raiders' release of Carr before Feb. 15, when $40.4MM would have become guaranteed, “a relief,” via Terrell.
